Reiki and unrealistic expectations
Anybody ever have decades of pain & trauma fully healed in their first reiki session?
Yeah. Me neither. ( using reiki as an example but this can also be applied to other “healing” modalities.)
Is it even likely to happen after weeks or months of regular reiki sessions?
No. It’s not guaranteed. Each individual will have their own unique process.
Some people have really unrealistic expectations of reiki practitioners and reiki as a healing modality.
Now as a reiki practitioner & teacher of over twenty years, yes, I can tell you that occasionally people have profound experiences and insights during their first reiki session.
But to heal long term pain, anxiety etc… that’s going to take time and it might take more than reiki alone.
I mean do you go to the gym once and expect to be strong instantly and forever without having to keep up the exercise?
No, of course not! You expect to put in some effort and reiki and other modalities require the same.
Traditionally, Reiki is a path of personal & spiritual development with a foundation of practicing mindfulness. A reiki practice can include meditation, energy cultivation techniques and mantras along with cultivating self awareness.
The reiki practitioner is not “healing” you but holding space for you and can maybe offer support and guidance compassionately along the way.
Commitment and effort is required by you to get the most from your reiki sessions.
This could potentially be: having therapy, establishing a daily mindfulness & meditation practice, movement of some form, shadow work, ancestral healing etc
No one can give you that peace and freedom from your internal struggles. Only you can truly do that but others can support and guide you lovingly along the way.
